A few more things ...

A few things I forgot to mention ... It is really cold here. They have four seasons and guess what - it is winter. I also forgot to mention that the people here have been so friendly. And they really like the color red. When we went to go eat lunch, the restaurant we went to was in a skyscraper. I don't remember the floor we were on ... but we when we went up to the restaurant in the main room was a wedding. It was very similar to a traditional American wedding ... bride and groom in a tux and white gown ... but after the actual ceremony, they left. The guests began their lunch and a little later the bride and groom returned, except this time she was wearing a red dress that was beautiful.

But that's not the only time I've seen red. It's so prevelant here.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the Chinese flag. Jerry (our tour guide) explained the meaning of the symbols. First, notice the odd number of stars (refer to previous blog for explanation). The large star in the corner represents the one party - the people's party. The four smaller stars surrounding it represent the people. And the red of the flag represents the blood that was shed for the cause. Well, at least, that's the explanation that Jerry gave us. It sounded very interesting.

Another observation - the culture is very westernized. People wear clothing you would see in the U.S. and so many of our restaurants, stores and companies have locations here. Also, English is located on signs throughout the country whether they are directional, retail, billboards, etc. I'm curious if that is because of the Olympics?

Well,I'm off to explore ... Post later ...
